The Pricing Science Organization is in search of a part-time Intern (20 hours per week) beginning in Fall of 2008. The pricing science intern will support research activities which extend Zilliant’s leadership position in analytics, segmentation and pricing optimization solutions. This research will be targeted both internally on new tools and externally on future product releases. The work will be project oriented and general guidance will be provided by a senior scientist. This is a great opportunity to learn about the fast growing area of pricing science and make real contributions to a small energetic team. One key role will be coming up with new methods and procedures and validating results of development algorithms.

The Zilliant science group is a highly educated, cross disciplinary team of economists, statisticians, computer scientists, operations research and industrial engineers. This is an excellent opportunity to learn from those that are at the forefront in the industry.

Requirements:

The primary requirements for this role are aptitude and coursework in either demand modeling (statistics, econometrics) or forecasting methods, techniques and algorithms; and experience in using statistical software. In addition, incumbents in this position will possess the ability to solve analytic and software problems, think creatively and work effectively with teams or independently.

Essential requirements include:

  • Currently enrolled in a PhD program in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Econometrics, Statistics, or related discipline.
  • Some familiarity with programming languages (Java, .NET.).
  • Experience with statistical, optimization or other relevant modeling software is preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to work with teams of professionals as well as independently.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues.
  • Track record of increasing responsibility and results.

Senior Scientist, Austin, Texas

Description:

The primary role of this position is to provide leadership in the design and execution of the scientific modeling employed in Zilliant’s products and delivered solutions, to ensure that the techniques and methods are appropriate, effective and leading-edge.

This role is discharged by personally executing and/or leading other scientists and analysts in executing the modeling implementation work during client engagements; or by personally executing and/or leading other scientists and analysts in the research, design and development of modeling related capabilities, features and functions in Zilliant’s software products.

Specific responsibilities of the position will vary on the basis of project assignment and project role, but may include:

  • Preparing prototypes and design documents for demand and optimization models
  • Providing detailed guidance, inspection and QA for development of demand and optimization models
  • Developing work plans for research, analysis and model implementation tasks
  • Conducting exploratory and solution-focused analysis of client data
  • Validating results and performance of as-built client solutions
  • Developing and delivering presentations to clients and prospects related to the modeling aspects of Zilliant’s solution, insights from analysis of client data, recommendations regarding alternative approaches
  • Conducting research into new or alternative methods and techniques

Requirements:

The primary requirement for this role is demonstrated expertise in either operations research or demand modeling (statistics, econometrics) methods, techniques and literature. Generally this is demonstrable by possession of an earned PhD, in appropriate disciplines with an appropriate dissertation topic or post-doctoral research work.

In addition, incumbents in this position will possess the ability to solve analytic and software problems, think creatively and work effectively with teams of professionals engaged in commercially tackling real-world business problems.

Essential requirements include:

  • Ph.D. Econometrics, Statistics or related discipline with at least 2 years performing substantive design work in demand or price optimization modeling or a Master’s degree with at least 5 years performing substantive design work in demand or price optimization modeling
  • Demand modeling or relevant optimization experience
  • Ability to work with teams of professionals
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, clients and prospects

Desirable skills and experience

  • Additional advanced degrees in business, finance or economics a plus
  • Experience in developing industrial-strength software, which employs operations research or statistical/econometric techniques, methods and algorithms
  • Academic or industry experience in pricing
  • Industry experience in transportation, hospitality, distribution, discrete manufacturing, and/or financial services is desired
  • Experience in managing client engagements and/or internal, professional teams
  • Track record of increasing responsibility and results
